Pelosi AWOL in McKinney Primary Fight

For immediate release: August 3, 2006

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who previously contributed $15,000 to
Rep. Cynthia McKinney, is being assailed by her Republican challenger for
refusing to endorse Hank Johnson, McKinney’s opponent in the August 8th
Georgia run-off election.

“Cynthia McKinney is one of the most virulently anti-Israel Democrats in
Congress. The refusal of Nancy Pelosi’s to endorse Mr. Johnson in this runoff
election is indefensible,” stated Mike DeNunzio the San Francisco Republican
who is opposing Pelosi. "Mr. Johnson is a respectable candidate who if
elected could finally rid Congress of an extremist like McKinney. "

"America’s only reliable ally Israel in the Middle East is being attacked by
Hezbollah Terrorists. This is an opportunity for Mrs. Pelosi to show her
support for Israel and to make amends for her past financial support of
McKinney.”

“Nancy Pelosi is the leader of her Party, she should make it clear that
America and Israel, would be better served in the global War on Terrorism
if McKinney were voted out of office on Tuesday.”

Notes: Three contributions of $5,000 each were made, not from Pelosi’s own
campaign committee, but from her PAC to the Future, which was subsequently
fined $21,000 by the Federal Election Commission for violations of
contribution limits in 2002.

More information on McKinney’s anti-Israel record can be found in the
July 28 edition of The Forward.
